Calgary Health Foundation is committed to protecting your privacy.  This Privacy statement describes the practices employed by the Calgary Health Foundation relating to personal information that identifies you (“personal information“).

Collection of personal information

Use of our website may result in the collection of the following personal information: the name of your internet service provider; the website that you used to link to our website; the websites that you visit from our website; and your IP address. Such information is stored on our servers for security purposes (to help diagnose problems with our servers, to administer this website more effectively, and to gather broad demographic information about what countries and domains our visitors come from as well as their behavior on our website). 

With the exception of the personal information listed above, you may use our website without disclosing your Personal Information. You are not required to provide any further personal information as a condition of using our website.

We collect further personal information only when you choose to provide it to us through information requests, volunteer opportunities, donations, fundraising events, contests or lotteries. Certain activities will require you to provide personal information in order to participate. For example, activities such as making a donation, purchasing an event ticket, entering a contest, subscribing to a newsletter, joining our on-line community, or creating a personal page all require limited Personal Information in order to participate. We do not collect any personal health information.

Use of cookies

Our Website uses limited cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored on a user’s computer and allow websites to remember information about users. The ‘Remember Me’ functionality on the user login form uses cookies to maintain login credentials during the browser session. You can deactivate the storing of cookies at any time or adjust your browser to inform you before a cookie is stored on your computer.

Use of personal information

We do not sell, rent or loan the personal information that you provide to us. 

Personal information in the form of contact and financial information is used by the Calgary Health Foundation to: (i) process donations; (ii) administer fundraising events, contests and lotteries; (iii) provide income tax receipts and event tickets; (iv) keep you informed of Calgary Health Foundation’s charitable work, funding needs and opportunities to volunteer and give through reports and newsletters. Contact information is also used to contact you when necessary in order to resolve service issues or questions. If you choose, you may readily opt-out of receiving future communications from the Calgary Health Foundation. All other personal information provided by you is only used for the purpose of supplying you with the service you have requested or for which you have given your consent.

Opting out

You may opt-out of receiving any and/or all communications from us by contacting us at 403-943-0615 or, if you are registered as an on-line user, logging in and changing your preferences.

Updating personal information

If you choose to register as a user of our on-line community, you will be able to view and edit much of your personal information directly by logging into your account.  Otherwise, we will update your personal information when we are notified of changes.  You may inform us of changes to your information by sending an e-mail to siteadministrator@calgaryhealthfoundation.ca or by contacting us at 403-943-0615.

Disclosure of personal information

The Calgary Health Foundation works with certain trusted organizations to act on its behalf by performing such functions as processing credit card payments, hosting our website and mailing certain materials. Those entities are provided with only the personal information needed to perform their specific function and they may not use such information for other purposes. They are bound by contract to maintain the confidentiality and security of personal information and are restricted from using such information in any way not expressly authorized by the Calgary Health Foundation.

Personal information will not be disclosed by the Calgary Health Foundation or contract service providers to third parties except when consent is obtained from the individual to whom such information relates or when required by a lawful authority or where permitted in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

All Personal Information is stored on databases, data processors and servers owned and operated by us, our affiliates or contract service providers. Any affiliate or contract service provider charged with storing Personal Information is required to comply with the terms and conditions of this privacy policy. 

Some personal information may be stored or processed at computers located in other jurisdictions, such as the United States, whose data protection laws may differ from the jurisdiction in which you live. In such cases, we will ensure that appropriate protections are in place to require the data processor in that country to maintain privacy protections that are equivalent or substantially similar to those outlined in this privacy policy.

Access to personal information

You have a right to access your personal information in the Calgary Health Foundation’s custody or control subject to certain exceptions under applicable privacy law. You may make a request for access to your personal information by writing to siteadministrator@calgaryhealthfoundation.ca.  Sufficient information must be provided in the access request to allow the Calgary Health Foundation to identify the information you are seeking.

Data retention

The Calgary Health Foundation only retains personal information for as long as reasonably required for legal or business purposes.

Personal information contained in user content 

Some sections of our website may allow users to publicly post or transmit messages, comments, photos, screen names, computer files and other materials. The Calgary Health Foundation does not actively monitor such activities and is not responsible for any personally identifiable information or other information that may be contained in such postings and transmissions. However, the Calgary Health Foundation will act to remove inappropriate content or to suspend a user’s privileges when notified of abuses. Users may notify the Calgary Health Foundation by sending an email to siteadministrator@calgaryhealthfoundation.ca or by calling 403-943-0615.

Security

We take every precaution to protect Personal Information. When our online registration or donation or ticket forms ask you to enter sensitive information, we use SSL encryption technology to prevent such information from being intercepted and read as it is transmitted over the Internet to our servers.  The Calgary Health Foundation also employs many other administrative, physical and technological security measures such as firewalls, passwords and restricted access to ensure that personal information that you provide is protected from unauthorized use or disclosure. However, even with the best available security at a point in time, no method of transmitting or storing electronic or physical data is ever completely secure and therefore we cannot warrant or guarantee that such information will never be accessed and used in a manner that is inconsistent with this privacy statement.

We may provide links on our website to other relevant sites. These sites operate independently of the Calgary Health Foundation and have established their own privacy and security policies. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our site and to read these policies at any site you visit. The Calgary Health Foundation is not responsible for the privacy practices of third party websites, which may be linked to our site.

Notification of Changes to Our Privacy Statement

If we change our privacy statement, we will post those changes on the privacy page of this website so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy statement under which the information was collected. If at any point we would like to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify users by way of an email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner.
