Calgary Health Foundation is excited to announce that the Shoppers Drug Mart™ Run for Women will be happening again in 2024, either in-person OR virtually, on June 15!

Over the past 11 years, the Run for Women has raised over $1.3M in support of Calgary-based women’s mental health initiatives. Calgary Health Foundation is proud to be the beneficiary of this moving event for the 12th straight year.

A run benefiting two critical women’s health initiatives

The Run for Women, brought to you by the LOVE YOU by Shoppers Drug Mart™ program—an initiative that works with local charities to help advance women’s health and provide women-specific support systems—fundraises for two important Calgary-based health care resources:

  • Calgary Eating Disorder Program, and
  • Women’s Mental Health Clinic

Calgary Eating Disorder Program

Calgary Eating Disorder Program (CEDP) provides specialized services for Albertans as young as 13 years old diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and other specified feeding or eating disorders.

Eating disorders have a 5-10% mortality rate, the highest of any mental illness, and suicide and cardiac disease are the leading causes of death among those with anorexia.

Early intervention is vital to lessening the impact of eating disorders. Your participation in the Run for Women will offer those with complex conditions the help they need faster.

Women’s Mental Health Clinic

The Women’s Mental Health Clinic (WMHC) supports women with moderate to severe mental health concerns who are looking to become pregnant, are pregnant, or are up to one year postpartum. Over 600 women access the WMHC annually.

Nearly one in five women will experience mental health difficulties, such as major depression or anxiety disorders, during their reproductive stage years.

To meet two women whose paths to motherhood were bettered because of access to the clinic, watch Yalda’s story below and read Krystin’s story.
