The story of Cara and Blakely is about how a health crisis instantly transformed a family forever. It is a complex and powerful story with a strong message of hope.
One September evening Cara, who was 35 weeks pregnant with her first child, started having serious stomach pains. Her husband Brett rushed her to Emergency, and just minutes after arriving at the hospital, she lost consciousness and her heart stopped beating.
The medical team acted with incredible speed and skill. They knew they had just minutes to save the baby‛s life. They performed an emergency C-section, and amazingly, Cara's daughter was born in under four minutes. The doctors were able to resuscitate Cara, but she was in a coma.
Cara was diagnosed with H.E.L.L.P. syndrome – a rare form of preeclampsia. She died five days after giving birth, without ever regaining consciousness. Thankfully though, that‛s not the end of the story. Blakely Cara survived and after 12 days in the NICU, they were able to take her home.
